Opening June 30 and running through Oct. 27, Yves Saint Laurent: Line and Expression will immerse fashion lovers in the genius and artistic process of Algerian-born designer Yves Saint Laurent. Curated by Olivier Saillard and Gaël Mamine, the stunning exhibit will be shown for the first time in the United States at the Orange County Museum of Art, depicting the designer’s original black ink and pencil sketches alongside photographs, jewelry and breathtaking haute couture gowns. The symphony of silhouettes spans the decades, from 1963 to 2001, offering a parade of colors, from Goya pink to Picasso red to Chagall blue. Greens and blues are married together, while pinks and oranges find connection, all under Saint Laurent’s vision that seemingly incongruous shades can be harmonious.

Guests will also find a wondrous display of inspiring works in another new exhibition: Color is the First Revelation of the World, a tandem opening offered until Aug. 18 featuring myriad artists. “This suite of exhibitions celebrates a breadth of extraordinary creative vision from sculpture to drawing to fashion to painting. From the intimate drawings of Yves Saint Laurent—inspired by his beloved city of Marrakech—through to a constellation of artists exploring blue as a medium for understanding the world, these shows offer embodied sensory experiences that expand our understanding of color, material, and process,” shares Heidi Zuckerman, CEO and director of the Orange County Museum of Art. “It is an honor to present the U.S. premiere of Line and Expression and to create new moments of wonder, awe and encounter for audiences here in Orange County.”
