They feasted on a gourmet dinner prepared by a rock star and helped raise $800,000 to advance research for a cure to Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The chef was Stan Frazier, former drummer for Sugar Ray and the winner of Chef Race: U.K. vs. U.S. Among the delectable bites he prepared for the 300-plus guests: ceviche, a hit creation from the show. The Balboa Bay Resort served as the backdrop, and a live auction kept partygoers on their toes with prizes like a Bahamas getaway. Ducks assistant coach—and decorated hockey player—Scott Niedermayer (a champ in his own right) and his wife, Lisa, were honored for their support in the fight against the disease. But the most touching moment came when CureDuchenne founders Debra and Paul Miller took the stage with their 16-year-old son, Hawken, who lives with Duchenne. There’s the real champion.
