What a Steal!

It was called the Art of the Heist, and it gave 400 of O.C.’s creative enthusiasts the chance to take home eye-catching works and raise funding for a beloved local venue. We are, of course, talking about Laguna Art Museum’s much-anticipated annual auction. Selections from 100-plus artists went on the block this year, and guests made it their business to bid on their favorites. So, what was the night’s top seller? Laddie John Dill’s “Light Trap,” which went for a cool $15,000. When they weren’t raising their paddles high, Robert Hayden III, and co-chairwomen Sara Heeschen and Michele Monda chatted with talents like James Verbicky and Adam Silverman, and sampled cuisine and drinks from local restaurants. (The Wine Gallery’s short-rib tacos were a hot commodity.) By the end of it all, LAM had pocketed $135,000—now that’s cashing in! –Photos by Eric Stoner
