Well-Played

Culture mongers are Stagestruck! by a more than $300,000 fundraising total at the South Coast Repertory Gala.

THE PARTY
Whether they perform on Broadway or at a nationally renowned professional theater in O.C., drama folks are dynamos. That’s why South Coast Repertory’s 53rd season gala was a showstopper: It was attended by a lively cast of characters, who toasted (with Stagestruck Salute cocktails) the venue’s past and raised funds for its future.

THE GUESTS
The eve kept the audience on the edge of its seat. At the reception, Julie Ann Ulcickas and Carolina Prichard snapped pics with vignettes featuring costumes from The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and other productions. Then partygoers were awed by the dinner’s theatrical setting in the ballroom. And after the meal? Associate Artistic Director John Glore introduced guest star (and Irvine native) Nicole Parker, who was cast at the age of 9 in his first play at SCR, leading her to a career on the stage and screen. (Wicked and MADtv are among her credits.)

THE HIGHLIGHTS
Before the curtain closed, executive chairwoman Sally Anderson shared that it all brought in $300,000-plus. Applause, please!
