Vaya con Dios

| November 3, 2014 | Parties

His voice filled the grounds of the Great Stone Church and enraptured 480 guests with songs like “Unchained Melody,” “Any Dream Will Do” and “When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano,” a traditional tune performed during the Romance of the Mission gala. The affair made history—as evidenced by David Burnham’s show. He delighted the crowd with his renditions of Broadway hits and was joined by special guest Christina Saffran for a duet. Equally moving was a ceremony honoring El Viaje de Portolá, a group that’s been instrumental in the Mission San Juan Capistrano’s preservation. Then there was the alfresco reception in the scenic gardens, a gourmet meal in the courtyard and a record fundraising total of $260,000 net, thanks to donors like Sheila and Jim Peterson, and Bette and Wylie Aitken. And that’s truly heaven sent. -Photos by Carla Rhea Photography
