Call this year’s Athletes First Classic gala and golf tourney at The St. Regis a family affair, and you’d be right. After all, the bash benefited Orangewood Foundation’s work with former foster kids in O.C. and honored NFL icons Clay Matthews Jr. and Bruce Matthews (along with Deloitte) for their philanthropy. Clay Matthews III (Green Bay Packers) was on hand to cheer on his clan—as were many other talents.

On the roster: current pros like Mark Sanchez (Denver Broncos) and retired champs such as Drew Bledsoe, who cast aside their rivalries and joined 600 football fans to win big for charity. They vied for auction prizes (Gregg and Celin Miller’s $32,000 bid landed them—and 28 of their pals—a roundtrip flight to Napa, Oakland or Vegas), raked in $260,000 for scholarships and scored $500,000 net over the two-day affair.

The game-changer came when Orangewood youth Oree spoke about the nonprofit’s new residential program for sex-trafficking survivors and moved the guests to give. Team players, indeed. -Photography by Ann Chatillon
