Vintage Hollywood—the burgeoning film industry was creating stars, making hits and pushing imaginations to their very limits. Perhaps that’s why Pretend City chose that as the theme for its first—and long-awaited—gala. Guests donned looks reminiscent of the ’30s (we loved Vanessa Bryant’s glitzy gold and black number!) and filled the kids museum, which also glammed up for the, well, premiere. A Model A Ford Coupe provided prime photo ops, and a Charlie Chaplin impersonator earned laughs from VIPs Christina and Bill Lyon, Alex Airth and Don Ressler in between sips of Kir Royale (a mix of bubbly and cassis), and dinner, dancing and lively rounds of bidding. It all helped raise more than $430,000 for the nonprofit. Classic!
