The PADRE Foundation Fashion Show Gala

| June 28, 2017 | Parties

The PADRE Foundation Fashion Show Gala sailed into the night with a record $520,000 tally.

THE PARTY Deep Into the Blue: It’s a theme that evokes the image of rising and falling waves. It’s also emblematic of the highs and lows of Type 1 diabetes. To calm the waters, approximately 837 supporters filled the Hyatt Regency Surf City for the PADRE Foundation’s 28th annual fashion show and gave a record $520,000. THE GUESTS Co-chairs Ann Schoeff and Shana Baker (each in the signature shade) mingled with master of ceremonies Nicole Johnson (Miss America 1999) and others at the silent auction, then headed to the ballroom for the main program. Here, an anonymous donor (though those of us there know who he was) pledged to match dollar for dollar what was raised during the Bid for a Kid segment (the total: $205,800). THE HIGHLIGHTS The children made the biggest splash: Rhett Hemingway (that name!) sang U2’s “With or Without You,” and some 111 kids and teens with Type 1 strutted down the runway. Too cool. -Kristen Schott
