The O.C. Heart & Stroke Ball

| June 28, 2017 | Parties

The O.C. Heart & Stroke Ball took on a healthful hue by bringing in more than $420,000 to fight cardiovascular disease.

THE PARTY O.C. was put on red alert when the American Heart Association held its 36th annual ball at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. Themed Color Your Life, the affair was a palette of fun that ended with $420,000-plus for the nonprofit. THE GUESTS Attendees spent the evening chatting at the reception, bidding on luxe goods (dazzlers from Twila True and Winston’s Crown Jewelers were up for grabs, while a custom dress experience donated by Tadashi Shoji was nabbed by Philip Yee for $7,500) and dining on dishes such as a kale salad with compressed watermelon. Spotted on the scarlet scene: board chairwoman Aimee Weisner and young survivors like Alec Ahmad, the passion speaker’s son. THE HIGHLIGHTS The most vibrant moment? When Angela Grinstead-Ahmad spoke about her son’s battle with scimitar syndrome, a rare defect that requires open-heart surgery. But thanks to the work of the AHA, Alec made a full recovery to be the bright boy he is today. -Courtney Cummings
