Glamorous. Sexy. Confident. Those are the words that come to mind when one meets Kelly Gray, the powerhouse behind O.C.-based women’s fashion brand Grayse. “My mother and father, Marie and Bob Gray, founded St. John in 1962, so you could say I was born into the fashion industry,” says Gray, who was once the co-CEO of the brand with Bruce Fetter before starting Grayse with her mother back in 2014. A rock ’n’ roll clothing line with Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx and a successful modeling career also happened along the way, but it’s the glitzy, one-of-a-kind designs she houses at the Grayse Fashion Island boutique that have her waking up feeling like a rock star. “I love my job. I feel like Freddie Mercury performing a concert when I’m at work. I’d like to think that I pass on a little bit of that feeling through our clothes to our clients,” says Gray, who will soon launch a beauty and wellness collection called Grayse Life. “Rock stars aren’t the only ones who get to take risks and be outrageous. Everybody should be allowed to be fabulous.” And after stepping back in front of the camera following a weight loss journey, Gray is feeling more fabulous than ever. Here, she shares her latest lust-haves.
“My dream watch is an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo in white gold with brilliant-cut diamonds.” Price upon request, EuroCollective OC, Fashion Island
“My mom and I drive matching Tesla Model X vehicles we purchased at Fashion Island, but I’ve always wanted a fabulous white Bentley convertible. I have my eye on one at EuroCar.” Price upon request, EuroCar OC, Costa Mesa
“I rang in the new year with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 purchased at Total Wine & More, where I found the best customer service of 2019. I loved shopping there so much, I ended up doing all of my Christmas shopping that night.” $125, Total Wine & More, Newport Beach
“My favorite accessory of 2020 is Gucci’s Horsebit leather gloves. I’m a huge fan of Alessandro Michele.” $630, South Coast Plaza
“Much like Freddie Mercury, my style is opulent, glamorous and sometimes over-the-top. My favorite jacket is nicknamed after Mercury. I probably wear it 100 days of the year.” Baroque faux suede double-breasted tux jacket, $1,095, Grayse by Kelly and Marie Gray, Fashion Island
