The Diamond Ball

The Diamond Ball dazzled, bringing in $575,000-plus for veterans and their canine compatriots.

THE PARTY Heroes come in many forms, which is why veterans and their four-legged friends are feted each year at The Diamond Ball, an affair that sparkles from start to finish with auctions, dinner, live music and support for Canine Companions for Independence.

THE GUESTS Wendy Burch (KTLA’s Emmy Award-winning TV reporter), Maureen and Dan Callahan, and 500 others filled The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel to toast (with glasses of Mutt Lynch wine) the people and their pups who are instrumental in the nonprofit’s efforts, namely, retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jason Morgan and his service dog, Rue, and volunteer Anne Roberts, who received the Geneva Davis Award.

THE HIGHLIGHTS Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton (winners of The X Factor’s final season) put on a powerful performance, and an eight-day stay at a Tuscan villa in Italy was a live-auction hit, selling twice for $12,500 each. And the fundraising total of $575,000-plus will help Canine Companions continue its work training service dogs for veterans—and all are champions, most certainly. -Demi Dailey
