The Color of Hope

| July 2, 2013 | Parties

One brilliant evening at Lake Mission Viejo, Estela Riela became the first breast cancer survivor to co-chair Komen O.C.’s Pink Tie Ball, an annual gala that raised more than $385,000 for awareness and research of the disease. So who was her co-chairman? Her husband, Sam. They shared their story with the pink-clad crowd, and all were touched when they learned that Estela’s been cancer free for seven years. Auctions and an opportunity drawing, meanwhile, thrilled attendees like Jose and Sonia Briseno, and Analisa and Bruce Albert. They also toasted the new Pink Tie Guys—including Scott Sherman, Dennis Parks and Sam, natch—who were recognized for their support of the nonprofit. The affair ended with dancing under the stars and the knowledge that we’re one step closer to finding a cure. Photography by Andy Art Photography and Orange Coast College
