A Sure Bet

One in every 68 children is affected by autism. It’s a staggering number, but a sold-out crowd of celebs and local VIPs went all in to help each and every one of them at Talk About Curing Autism’s eighth annual poker-themed gala. Held at The St. Regis Monarch Beach, the evening gave good-hearted gamblers—the likes of actor Johnathon Schaech, who has attended for the past seven years; actress Nicky Whelan; and former NFL quarterback Jim Everett—the chance to play a few hands for charity. (And poker players Michelle Lau and David Mosikian made sure to share some tips.) But the betting wasn’t just reserved for the tables. Guests also opened their wallets to bid on auction prizes, including a trip to Hawaii that went for $8,000. It all raked in a record $365,000 for the nonprofit.
