State of Grace

The 300 philanthropists who attended Mercy House’s gala were Living With Heart—the event’s theme, natch—when they netted $200,000 for its programs and facilities for the homeless in Orange and San Bernardino counties. Held at the Fairmont Newport Beach, the evening began with a silent auction and hors d’oeuvres on the terrace before the guests filed into the ballroom for dinner. Here, Mercy House client Christina Brown spoke about her personal experiences with homelessness, and the crowd was moved by what they heard. In fact, the Raise Your Heart pledges garnered $79,000—that’s $20,000 more than the goal. Have mercy! –Photos by Timothy Huynh
