The transformative powers of the youngest members of our community were experienced by all at National Charity League Juniors of Newport Beach’s Enchanted Garden Party. Fresh-faced philanthropists in kindergarten through sixth grade and their equally glowing moms gathered at Balboa Bay Resort to raise funding ($140,000-plus) for three nonprofits (High Hopes Head Injury Center, Harry and Grace Steele Children’s Center, and Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation). Lawrence Zarian hosted an auction with goodies like a chance to be an assistant for the day at Bloomingdale’s Fashion Island (one of Traci Arntsen’s three girls will be a lucky lady). There was a runway show too, starring well-heeled mother-daughter duos like Becky and Kasey Scanlan. But what set our hearts aflutter was the Butterflies for Love program—givers donated textbook fees for HGS parents and bought High Hopes patient David Frayne a walker with wheels.
