They tried their hands at black jack, then dined on stuffed chicken breast—it was a Rat Pack-style affair dubbed Stardust Nights, and it raked in some $600,000 for PBS SoCal. The gala, held at the Hyatt Regency Surf City, drew 300-plus supporters and paid homage to just- retired CEO Mel Rogers, who led the station for 18 years, guiding it through to the digital age and into its current role as the primary PBS station for O.C. and L.A. And the eve wouldn’t have been complete without a little live bidding. The winnings included a dinner experience with CBS Travel Editor Peter Greenberg, which added $3,500 to the tally.
