Since its founding by Stephen Gordon in Eureka, Calif., in 1979, RH—formerly Restoration Hardware—has been known for its timeless furnishings. What began as a passion project for Gordon while restoring a Victorian home has blossomed into an empire marked by its renowned design galleries and cult following. Led by chairman and CEO Gary Friedman, who joined the company in 2001, RH is ushering in its next era right here in Orange County. Enter RH Newport Beach, The Gallery at Fashion Island, a monolithic four-story retail experience spanning an impressive 97,000 square feet.
“RH Newport Beach is one of our most dramatic, immersive and brand-defining physical locations to date,” says Friedman. “The Gallery reflects our quest to continue revolutionizing physical retailing, blurring the lines between residential and retail, indoors and outdoors, home and hospitality, and we are proud to introduce this inspiring destination in the Southern California market.”

Step inside the remarkable four-story design mecca to discover a modern sanctuary filled with natural light and fresh air. The Gallery’s exterior features parchment-cream Venetian plaster, complemented by glass and steel French doors that open to tranquil garden courtyards. A serene walking path of decomposed granite and bluestone pavers winds through the space, surrounded by magnificent 100-year-old heritage olive trees. The third floor unveils RH’s first-ever integrated Waterworks Showroom, offering a 3,000-square-foot curated selection of bath and kitchen fittings, fixtures, lighting, surfaces and accessories. Adjacent to it is an 8,500-square-foot RH Interior Design Atelier, providing an unparalleled level of professional design services.

On the lower levels, guests will discover artistic lifestyle installations of RH Collections by internationally renowned designers. The exterior terraces and courtyards host the largest selection of RH Outdoor collections in North America—a nod to the brand’s dedication to its Southern California clientele. Barrel vaulted passageways lead to a classical arrangement of rooms, where the brand’s iconic furnishings, lighting and decor are seamlessly integrated with one-of-a-kind antiques and artifacts from Friedman’s world travels.
The family’s youngest members can also get in on the action in spaces focused on the RH Baby & Child and TEEN collections, highlighted by pieces that harmoniously blend with the rest of the home. These intimate rooms display miniature versions of the brand’s iconic sofas, sectionals and chairs, inviting visitors of all ages to explore and discover.

Post-shopping, retreat to RH Newport Beach’s crown jewel—the RH Ocean Grill. A debut concept set on the fourth-floor rooftop, the 270-seat indoor-outdoor dining destination delights with seafood and caviar offerings amidst sparkling chandeliers, fragrant olive trees and a flowing central fountain. A nod to the breathtaking landscapes of Europe, the skylit garden oasis enchants during lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Enjoy the signature Mulholland Drive Salad, the restaurant’s take on a classic Cobb, or indulge in the stacked RH Burger with truffle fries during lunch. At dinnertime, dive into decadent entrees from the land and sea with fellow foodies. While you can sip delightful beverages at your table with views of the Pacific, don’t forget to stop by the two adjacent Wine Bars anchoring the fourth floor’s grand stairwell. Champagnes and wines sourced from around the world—and, of course, Napa Valley, a neighbor to RH’s Corte Madera headquarters—ensure a spirited journey through the gallery.
“We continue to open the most innovative and immersive physical experiences in our industry and, some would say, the world,” beams Friedman. “The impressive and innovative spirit of RH Newport Beach is evident in every detail, and we are honored to bring our largest and most dramatic retail and hospitality destinations to Southern California.” Welcome to the neighborhood.
