Pinkie Swear

| July 7, 2016 | Parties

THE PARTY It’s been a decade since Harald Herrmann launched the Pink Tie Ball with Julie Ann Ulcickas, after losing his wife, Kathie, to breast cancer—and in that time, Komen O.C.’s blush-hued bash has invested upward of $5.6 million into research. And the 10-year anniversary fete continued Carrying the Promise Into the Future (the theme, natch), with five co-chairs—Herrmann and son Austin, Ulcickas, Denis Kalscheur and Khanh Tran—and nearly 550 attendees, who brought in $700,000-plus. THE GUESTS Estela Riela, and Bette and Wylie Aitken spent the evening at AV Irvine sipping rose-colored cocktails, vying for prizes (a popular pick: a stay at the original house from the novel Zorba the Greek, which raked in $24,000) and praising dedicated supporters like the Pink Tie Guys and speaker Dr. Hans Keirstead, an innovator in stem cell research. THE HIGHLIGHTS A gift from the Herrmanns underscored it all: a bronze calla lily commissioned by artist Jerome Gastaldi to showcase Komen’s commitment to ending the disease. And that puts us in the pink. –Photos by Antje Woolum
