Every two hours in O.C., a child is born into poverty. And 177,650 go hungry daily. These are staggering numbers, but the Illumination Foundation is changing all that. Take its Table for 10 gala at Disney’s Grand Californian—the sold-out epicurean affair raised $580,000 for the cause. There was bidding aplenty: A wine wall constructed by Kevin Trussell uncorked 300 rare vinos, most of which were valued at upward of $100; two Corum watches sold for $10,000 each; and the fund-a-need program’s $185,000 tally was matched by an anonymous donor. And let’s not forget the cuisine— host chefs Andrew Sutton and Ralph Stuhlmueller of Disneyland Resort were among the talents who dished out meals at each of their beautifully appointed tables. (We loved Talia Zimmer of True Food Kitchen’s seared rockfish!) For dessert? The nonprofit’s kids’ choir sang “Happy,” leaving everyone with the sweetest of smiles. -Photos by Reza Allah-Bakhshi
