TECHED OUT
Open through April 29, Difference Machines: Technology and Identity in Contemporary Art is the latest art exhibit to open at The Beall Center for Art + Technology. Located at the University of California, Irvine, the display brings together 17 artists who have created works that address our relationship with the digital world. “Since Difference Machines opened in Buffalo in the fall of 2021, the question of how technology shapes and reflects identity has become both more mainstream and more urgent,” says Tina Rivers Ryan, Buffalo AKG Art Museum curator, who co-created the exhibition with University of Buffalo professor Paul Vanouse. “We especially wanted to emphasize that artists who work with technology can be critical of it—while simultaneously expanding our horizons of what technology, and art, can be,” adds Vanouse. Expect dynamic and interactive works spanning the mediums—from animated videos to 3D-printed sculptures—that were crafted over the past 30 years. beallcenter.uci.edu
