One Generous Eve

| July 10, 2014 | Parties

It was a giving night when some 300 ladies and gents raised $575,000 during the American Heart Association’s annual Heart and Stroke Ball, a fete that supports the nonprofit’s mission to save people from the country’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers. Guests David and Jennifer Langdon, and Melissa and Reed Morales mingled over flutes of bubbly in The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel’s palm tree-lined courtyard, and they bid away during the silent auction, which was stocked with prizes like a getaway to Half Moon Bay and a private wine tasting. They then filled the ballroom for the moving main event. Actress Lynn-Holly Johnson shared her personal story about her stroke and recovery. And 14-year-old Grace Doran delivered a stirring speech about her own challenging experience—at the age of 10, she suffered a stroke and has undergone multiple brain surgeries. She also praised the AHA’s work, calling the organization a “quiet friend” throughout her journey. Now that’s truly heartfelt. –Photos by Reza Allah-Bakhshi
