OCSA’s astounding students sang their way to $1.6 million at the Big Time in the Big Easy Gala at Hotel Irvine.

THE PARTY Creole cuisine and a medley of stunning performances by Orange County School of the Arts’ best made the Big Time in the Big Easy Gala one for the books. More than 600 partygoers packed Hotel Irvine to peruse silent auction items, peach cocktails in hand, as performers tap danced, sang and painted nearby. THE SCENE The night’s main event kicked off with some 200 OCSA students flexing their finely tuned skills through song and dance, with sizzling renditions of hits by Ray Charles, Harry Connick Jr., Frank Sinatra and more. The audience nibbled on Southern favorites like Louisiana crab salad, Cajun-blackened redfish and family-style beignets as OCSA alum Lorenzo Rangel-Santos and Dr. Mohamed El-Erian shared the difference the arts had made their in families’ lives. THE HIGHLIGHTS Paddles were raised left and right during Fund-A-Dream, but it was the surprise gift of $500,000 from Julia Argyros and honorary gala co-chair Lisa Argyros that had everyone putting their hands together. The total? A whopping $1.6 million.
