Orange County School of the Arts’ Season Premiere set the stage for a dazzling year of forthcoming performances.
THE PARTY It was a night of lively showtunes and gourmet dining as the Orange County School of the Arts gathered some 270 attendees to toast the kickoff of the new school year and its accompanying performance schedule at Balboa Bay Resort. THE SCENE “OCSA’s Season Premiere brings our community of supporters together for a grand opening to the school’s performance season, which will include more than 200 presentations,” Ralph Opacic, founder and executive director, told the crowd. Decadent pork tenderloin and jumbo prawns were served while the winners of OCSA’s Emerging Artist competition, The Sun Stripes, serenaded dinner guests as the starry sky began to emerge. THE HIGHLIGHTS Senior Hanna Eyre, who appeared on season 12 of The Voice, showcased her vocal range with a rendition of Prince’s “Nothing Compares to You” before headliner and Broadway star David Burnham stepped into the spotlight. From Frank Sinatra’s “Get Happy” to a medley of favorites from Wicked and The Wizard of Oz to his touching tribute to his mother with “Fly Again,” Burnham enchanted the students who shared the stage with him, and their devoted parents alike. - Riley Greenough
