Notes From the Underground

| April 8, 2013 | Parties

A creative crowd came to admire the works of 113 artists, nab their favorites and help LAM keep shedding light on the best of the state’s art, and they did it by grossing $255,000. It’s welcome news for the 450 VIPs and top talents who filled the museum-turned-nightclub for its annual auction, themed California Underground. Spotted among the guests: Artist Theodore Svenningsen—whose “Northern Train in Snow” landed a pretty penny—local gallery owner Carl Smith and his wife Simona, and Rory and Tom Ferlauto. They enjoyed gastro delights from restaurants like Nirvana Grille and Tamarind of London, vino from the Wine Gallery, live art performances and entertainment. Oh, and about that bidding—well, let’s just say all those collectors have a few new selections to showcase at their own homes. Photography by Eric Stoner
