Napa in Newport

Napa in Newport bottled up $1 million for CureDuchenne.

THE PARTY A splash of wine here, a nibble of fine fare there—it’s what a cluster of more than 400 altruistic oenophiles were treated to in return for supporting CureDuchenne at the third annual Napa in Newport affair. THE GUESTS Held at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, the eve began with a tasting from the likes of ZD Wines: The deLeuze family served as honorary chairs and poured the rare Abacus XVIII for the first time outside their label’s events. Other good grapes came from Arrow&Branch, Hundred Acre and Memento Mori—a lineup curated by Master Somm Michael Jordan. Celeb chef Amar Santana of Broadway and Vaca later served up a meal of blue cheese-crusted filet mignon (paired with plenty of vino). THE HIGHLIGHTS The moment that uncorked the most meaning came when 20-year-old Hawken Miller, who has the fatal form of muscular dystrophy, shared his story: “I’m not supposed to have lived this long. ... I don’t know how long I have left.” It’s why the night ended with a tally of $1 million for life-saving gene editing research. Cheers to that! -Kristen Schott
