The employees of Mission Hospital strutted their stuff—and some chic fashions—during the 19th annual Valiant Women luncheon and runway show. Physicians and nurses from a variety of departments, including Dawn Atwal from cardiology and Ray Rodriguez from the surgical intensive care unit, sported styles from the likes of Lululemon and Macy’s. It was all in good fun— and in an effort to raise funding for the institution’s Women’s Wellness Center, among other programs. There was plenty of support—the day raised upward of $250,000. And if you’re wondering what kind of an impact that will make, consider this: Proceeds from the 2014 and 2015 events covered the purchase of 3-D breast tomosynthesis technology, considered the gold standard in mammography. Now that’s fighting a good fight. –Photos by Lisa Renee Baker
