The mod-themed festivities at the Island Hotel
Go-go boots, peace signs, psychedelic patterns—the groovy trends of the 1960s exploded onto the scene for JDRF’s annual Dream Gala at the Island Hotel, a mod-inspired evening that asked the 350 haute hippies in attendance to Join the Revolution (the theme, natch) by raising funds to cure Type 1 diabetes. And they had a blast doing it. Analisa and Bruce Albert, and Christina and Brian Jenkins nibbled on tasty bites (like the In the Kennedy Kitchen at Hyannisport surf and turf) and jammed to DJ’d tunes. (We caught a few revelers doing the twist.) There were prizes too—a vacation in St. Croix sold twice for a total of $16,000 (it was the priciest item in the live auction), and the fund-a-cure bidding landed $285,000 for six research efforts, including an artificial pancreas project. Before guests split for the night, they honored Drs. Nancy and Larry Silverberg and Toyota Motor Sales for their commitment to JDRF— and brought the final tally to more than $800,000.
