Pearls of Wisdom
Mikimoto marks the release of Assouline’s The Pearl Necklace with a special exhibition titled Möbius Ribbon.
THE PARTY
Team two luxury brands like renowned jeweler Mikimoto and coffee-table book publisher Assouline, and you can expect something that is as beautiful as it is enlightening. Such is the case with Möbius Ribbon, an exhibition detailing the illustrious 120-year history of Mikimoto, created to coincide with the release of Assouline’s new tome, The Pearl Necklace ($85), which pays homage to the beauty and allure of these gifts from the sea.
THE GUESTS
The stunning display of archival photographs and campaign materials flowed through a 775-square-foot space in ribbon-like fashion at South Coast Plaza for 10 days. VIPs marked the unveiling with a special cocktail party and exclusive viewing of one-of-a-kind pieces and historical treasures, including the necklace baseball great Joe DiMaggio gifted to his glamorous movie star wife, Marilyn Monroe. Celeb Oscar Nunez (of The Office fame) and wife Ursula Whittaker also mingled with A-list guests Jennifer Segerstrom, Karen Cahill and Valarie Van Cleave, while others even tried on a few of Mikimoto’s spectacular jewelry designs.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
Given the origin of the celebrated pearl, it seemed only fitting that Mikimoto would donate a percentage of the evening’s sales to Oceana, an organization committed to preserving the waters of the world. Truly precious. ‒Tina Borgatta
