Merry and Bright

It was a scene straight out of a snow globe when Hoag Hospital Foundation hosted its 48th annual Christmas Carol Ball at The St. Regis Monarch Beach. Carolers greeted merrymakers—all of whom were bedecked in festive finery—and the All-American Boys Chorus filled the halls with its holiday songs. (Co-chairs Roger and Tracy Kirwan and VIPs such as Mary and Dick Allen were even caught singing along to “Jingle Bells” during a performance from entertainment group NRG.) Oh, there was a show from figure skaters on an ice rink in the ballroom (so cool!), a dueling piano act and plenty of presents—that is, in the form of auction prizes like a Traditional Jewelers package that nabbed $7,000. But there was another type of giving too: The Bid for a Cause gave attendees the chance to buy new wheelchairs for patients or fund nursing scholarships. In total, the eve raised $850,000 for the medical institution—and that’s the greatest gift of all. –Photos by Ketara Gadahn and Kevin Warn
