Meet this month’s Man of the Moment: EuroCar COO and optical guru Larry Sands, who’s opening EuroCollective at Fashion Island this summer.
“I don’t always go by the rules; I change the rules. That doesn’t mean operating in the gray area or breaking the rules, but establishing new criteria for the way things are done versus the way they might have been done in other time periods. You can either follow the traditional style of doing business or you can have more of a maverick business style, and I’ve always done the latter. I’ve always been able to pull the trigger better and quicker than the next guy. I’d rather pull the trigger and make a quick decision. I am not analytical; I just shoot from the hip. I’ve never really thought about living my life any other way. And, at 81, I’m still driven. I don’t think age enters into my personality or my brain or any part of me. I’m as driven as I’ve ever been, and as clear a thinker as I’ve ever been. I’m having a great time. I have a 12-year-old daughter and a wonderful wife who’s the best, and I’m getting ready to do a project that’s never been done before in Fashion Island. I’m a very happy man, and I’ve got a lot of great businesses.”
