THE PARTY The Strand in Dana Point had a mod moment when Oceana held its much-anticipated SeaChange Summer Party on the private beaches of the luxe development. Case in point: The evening was themed Mad About the Oceans and drew a cast of characters straight out of our favorite ’60s-era TV series, including ambassador January Jones and Kiernan Shipka. THE GUESTS Man of the hour Jon Hamm (the ever-dapper special guest) joined co-chairwomen Valarie Van Cleave and Eve Kornyei Ruffatto, and other water warriors for cocktails and a view of the Pacific before honoring Dr. Enric Sala of the National Geographic Society for his work to preserve the world’s last remaining marine ecosystems. THE HIGHLIGHTS The auctions are always shorestoppers (bidding for the BMW i8 was wild, with a final tally of $165,000), but the real wave-maker was the more than $1 million fundraising total, which will support the nonprofit’s global campaign to restore biodiversity and abundance to our oceans.
