Hole in One

| July 2, 2012 | Parties National

Determined gleams and furrowed brows—expressions just like the ones beloved cowboy John Wayne was known for—shadowed the faces of golfers who played in this year’s Grit on the Greens tournament, held at The Resort at Pelican Hill to raise much-needed money for the cancer foundation formed in the icon’s memory. With about 160 in attendance, the event more than doubled in size and was a day that blended preppy-chic style with Western gruff. Among the special guests: Wayne’s children Ethan and Marisa, LPGA player Stefanie Michl and retired pro golfer Travis Matthew Johnson. Later, the fun moved to a party in the Mar Vista Ballroom, where guests enjoyed a silent auction, dinner overlooking the 18th hole and plenty of yee-hawing throughout the night!
