High Steaks

Sports stars and local power players alike made it their business to be at Selanne Steak Tavern’s premiere party—but that’s to be expected. After all, the hot new Laguna Beach restaurant is the brainchild of Anaheim Ducks winger Teemu Selanne. He joined Ducks owner Henry Samueli, teammate François Beauchemin, tennis pro Lindsay Davenport and 200 other folks for a taste of the establishment’s drinks and dishes, and a peek at its sophisticated surrounds. They sampled more than 20 fromage selections—think Humboldt Fog goat cheese and triple-crème Brie—and charcuterie in the wine room. Gourmands delighted in everything from oysters to spot prawns to snow crab claws in the tavern. And the epicurean exploration continued with dessert on the terrace—housemade vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate praline mousse cake were among the sweets that scored big with guests. Goal!
