Leave it to Charlie Palmer Executive Chef Seakyeong Kim to come up with a selection of elegant edibles that were found irresistible by the 300 grazers in attendance at South Coast Plaza’s Summer Food & Wine soiree benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank. There were truffle cheese sliders, fluke sashimi with grapefruit and jalapeno, and Brussels sprouts with a Cherry Coke gastrique—and all of it paired perfectly with the nectar of the gods that was poured by Cakebread Cellars, Nickel & Nickel, Heitz Cellar and Blackbird Vineyards, among other wineries the world over. These sips and bites were polished off by event founder Anton Segerstrom, along with Irene Martino and Barney Page, while they bid on silent auction goodies (like vintage bottles) and mingled in the sophisticated confines. They also descended into the barrel room for flutes of fine Champagne before toasting the $70,000 gleaned for the nonprofit’s work to end hunger in O.C.
