For the first time ever, the famous Greubel Forsey GMT Sport watch will hit the auction block at Christie's Watches Online: The Dubai Edit, from March 15 to 29.
While the full auction is set to feature 200 lots, Greubel Forsey will showcase two of its most iconic pieces. The blue version of Greubel Forsey GMT Sport was a limited edition of 11 pieces that immediately sold out when it premiered. The red version? It’s the only such watch ever created.
Both watched are estimated at a value of $400,000 to $600,000.
The GMT Sport was introduced by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey in 2019, with an ultra-strong but lightweight titanium case. Water-resistant to 100 metrics, these timepieces stand out as one of the most sport-oriented timepieces to be created.
It was designed from scratch with a suspended arch bridge displaying hours and minutes, while the universal time display boasts a three-dimensional globe and an open-worked dial, the Greubel Forsey hallmark.
With floating dials in three dimensions, the GMT Sport presents the classic Greubel Forsey architecture dedicated to sporting vocation. Each side of the 435 components lives up to the efficiency and workmanship of Greubel Forsey.
Another remarkable component of the piece is its ability to read the current time anywhere in the world. With this double-patented mechanism, the second time zone indication between 10 and 11 o'clock is combined with a universal time display. A striking, rotating globe completes an anticlockwise turn on its axis each 24 hours.
Lastly, these particular pieces showcase the Tourbillon 24 Secondes, the third Fundamental Invention by Greubel Forsey in the field of the tourbillon. The rotating tourbillon houses 88 components with a weight of 0.38 grams—a shocking feat made possible with light-alloy pillars and titanium bridges.
Both versions of the Greubel Forsey GMT Sport exemplify the extreme dedication it takes to produce such profound timepieces, that deserve their first time spot in an auction.
