Greased Lightnin'

| August 28, 2012 | Parties

Orange County’s streets roared to life for Barrett-Jackson’s collector car auction, a three-day event that showcased the best autos around. But motor mavens couldn’t wait to get the party going, so they joined Childhelp supporters and VIPs at the org’s Drive the Dream gala. The soirĂ©e featured a silent auction, dinner and the sounds of Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., all of which helped garner $325,000 for the nonprofit—and kept auto enthusiasts sated till the weekend. That’s when more than 54,000 (including Barrett-Jackson CEO Craig Jackson and Carolyn Mullany) gathered at the O.C. Fair & Event Center to bid on hundreds of collectibles, muscle cars, hot rods and exotics, like a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, and eight vehicles that went on the block for charity. The final tally zoomed to $14 million, and car lovers drove home in style. Photos by Reza Allah-Bakhshi, Ann Chatil
