Flight of Fancy

| February 25, 2015 | Parties National

When Providence Speech and Hearing Center was founded in 1965, it operated out of a single room at St. Joseph Hospital. Today, it’s one of the largest clinics of its kind in the United States, providing some 100,000 visits every year to patients. And that golden legacy was feted during the nonprofit’s vintage-inspired gala at Lyon Air Museum. Dubbed Come Fly With Providence, the event gave 300-plus aeronauts the chance to dine and dance amid historical aircraft. They also threw down the dollars: The fund-a-need auction exceeded its goal by 40 percent, raising $77,125 for the Cochlear Implant Project, a collaborative effort between the organization and CHOC Children’s. The final highlight? The night ended with more than $300,000, allowing the center to soar to success for the next 50 years. –Photos by Bob Ortiz
