The scene sizzled when some 1,000 Newporters, celebs and foodies from far beyond our shores filled Oak Grill and Aqua Lounge for the duo’s preopening bash, which spanned two evenings and kicked off with a sunset taste of the restaurant. Manning the flames? Executive Chef Marc Johnson and his team. They served up spoonfuls of tandoori-spiced ahi tartare amid the posh interior and grilled mini versions of the eatery’s pork chop with smoked cherries and pork-belly risotto on the scenic open-air patio. Up next was a late-night affair at Aqua, where partiers cooled off with sips of Moscow Mules and grooved as DJs spun upbeat tunes.
