THE PARTY It was, perhaps, one of the tastiest evenings on our coast when the American Liver Foundation served up its Flavors of Orange County gala, an event that has paired wining and dining with charity for the past 12 years. THE GUESTS Gastrophiles began the night at the Fairmont Newport Beach with a reception and silent auction before stepping into the alfresco courtyard to learn which of O.C.’s finest culinarians (the likes of host chef Brian Doherty) would be cooking for their tables—and no matter where they sat, the cuisine was supreme. A sampling? Shuck Oyster Bar’s Mina Sacramento plated Thai-style oyster ceviche and sea bass with crispy skin. THE HIGHLIGHTS While the fare was fab, the real reason for it all was never far from guests’ minds: Some 30 million Americans are touched by liver disease, but the nonprofit is working to change all that through research, education and outreach initiatives. To that end, foodies helped honor The Loft’s Casey Overton and Dr. David Imagawa for their commitment—and they raised $93,500 for the cause. Simply delish. –Photos by Reza Allah-Bakhshi
