A Fine Flame

| January 29, 2013 | Parties

The light from hundreds of votives set the scene for a gala 39 years in the making at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, an affair that burns brighter with each showing. But the flames are only one element of the tradition known as the Candlelight Concert, which this year netted nearly $1 million. Festival Ballet dancers performed on the grand staircase, while pianists and a string trio offered songs for Sally and Randy Crockett and Betty Huang, along with board chairman Larry Higby and his wife, Dee. And, of course, Segerstrom Hall was transformed into a majestic ballroom. Guests enjoyed cuisine, dancing and performances from Tony Award winner Sutton Foster and Huey Lewis and The News—a surprise came when Dee played the glockenspiel with the band—all as candles twinkled in the tiers above.
