Fine Equine

Live cafe music, human statues and mimes, and a distant Eiffel Tower greeted guests entering the oceanfront garden at the Montage Laguna Beach for The Shea Center’s 24th annual gala. Dubbed Shea La Vie, the soiree drew 370 of O.C.’s crème de la crème to raise funds for the nonprofit’s therapeutic equestrian programs. Hors d’oeuvres were sampled and bids were placed on 175 silent auction items—fittingly displayed on a table in the shape of a horseshoe—before revelers indulged in a gourmet dinner created by the resort’s chefs. Later, Lily Gerhard—a 10-year-old rider who came to the center after suffering a stroke following brain surgery—presented the Michael Lewis Friends of the Disabled Award to Mark Aldrich for his 20 years of support (he’s served as board chairman twice), as well as The Capital Group Cos. Charitable Foundation for donating $200 million to philanthropic organizations around the globe. With all that, the French-inspired evening earned more than $700,000. Shea magnifique, indeed! –Photos by Brian Carter of Pixel That! Photography
