Exotic and mesmerizing—that’s the only way to describe the Pacific Symphony’s annual gala at The St. Regis Monarch Beach, a soiree that raised more than $1.3 million for the group’s programs. So what was the theme? An Evening in China, and the 325 supporters indulged in the culture’s splendor, thanks to a lion dancer, the sounds of a butterfly harp, stilt performers and kung fu masters. Lychee martinis were sipped at the reception, and dinner was served with Asian-inspired touches. Pianist Haochen Zhang played a selection of songs while guests dined. To round it all out: a live auction with trips to Cabo San Lucas and London—faraway lands fitting of such a night. Photography by Nick Koon
