Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra set the tune for the Philharmonic Society’s new season—and the audiences filling Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall for the performances were captivated by every chord. But it was more than just the music that made the nights: Guests were dazzled by the décor (the hall was outfitted with Chopard’s jewels). The performances honored Segerstrom Center’s 25th year and the 120th anniversary of Carnegie Hall’s opening—two orgs that have been instrumental in the philharmonic’s success.
