The ballroom of the Island Hotel was draped in white—an appropriate backdrop for a gala fundraiser benefiting CHOC Children’s Hospital. Guests, including top supporters Marsha and David Willis, and Lawrence and Kristina Dodge, listened intently to the story of one young former patient who beat cancer, thanks to the medical center’s cutting-edge technology and brilliant physicians. And a special nod went to Hyundai Motor America, which donated $10 million last year to the hospital’s building campaign—the largest corporate gift in its history. It made bidding on the lavish collection of live auction items (including his and hers Corum Diamond Chronograph Bubble watches valued at $67,000) all the more satisfying—the money raised will ensure CHOC’s future as a top state-of-the-art medical facility.
