Cutthroat Kitchen

| October 2, 2015 | Parties

THE PARTY They came. They ate. They conquered. Yes, we’re talking about the nearly 500 glam gourmands who filled the courtyard at Segerstrom Center for Modern Luxury’s To Live & Dine bash benefiting the lauded performing arts institution. Here, the coast’s finest chefs cooked up delish dishes in the hopes of earning the most votes (or should we say bites?) from hungry attendees—and being named this year’s champ. THE GUESTS Oh, these culinarians certainly put it all on the table. There were masala sea cucumbers from Clay Oven’s Geeta Bansal (the cukes served as boats), sweet-and-sour sea trout fillets from Eats’ Jason Montelibano (he’s a past winner) and pretty plates of tuna carpaccio from Sushi Roku’s Shin Toyoda (Parmesan, of all things, topped them off). THE HIGHLIGHTS As the sun sank from the sky, VIPs took one last taste, cast their votes and mingled amid design vignettes created by the likes of Room & Board while awaiting the big news: that the foie gras terrine from Oak Grill’s Marc Johnson had landed him the win—for the second year in a row. Victory, indeed. –Photos by Iman Bahrehbakhsh
