It’s been 10 years since the American Heart Association launched its Go Red For Women movement in Orange County, and more than 500 health-minded movers and shakers joined chairwoman Christine McCauley, and advocates Judy Brandt and Aimee Weisner at the Island Hotel in Newport to cheer its success. (An estimated 90 percent of women who’ve taken the Go Red pledge have made at least one behavior change to lead healthier lives.) The festivities began with a silent auction featuring handbags by the likes of Kate Spade and Michael Kors, followed by a light and delicious lunch, passionate stories of survival and a hilarious standup routine by Cindy Burns of the Funniest Housewives of Orange County comedy troupe. But it was the news that the fundraising tally had hit $350,000 that kept the smiles going long after the luncheon had ended, making for a very happy anniversary. –Photos by Reza Allah-Bakhshi
