Coastal Classic

Old Hollywood glamour came southward to Newport’s shores for the Crystal Cove Alliance’s ninth annual Beach Gala, themed Surf, Sand and the Silver Screen. More than 425 of O.C.’s stars gathered for the soirĂ©e, which paid tribute to the nonprofit and the history of filmmaking at Crystal Cove. Guests took a moonlit stroll through the past as they jived to period hits like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” against a backdrop featuring cutouts of icons like James Dean. But they looked toward the future, too: The evening netted more than $200,000 to support the org’s work to preserve Crystal Cove—efforts that include the reopening of the restored Cottage 13 as a film museum.
