Sustainable design is making its way into hundreds of thousands of homes, and Chairish co-founder Anna Brockway is leading the way.
From working in fashion as head of worldwide marketing at Levi’s—where she honed a love of vintage—to co-founding online decor marketplace Chairish (chairish.com)—where 85% of the inventory is vintage—Anna Brockway is setting the stage for a sustainable design. “My husband and I moved three times in five years, and each time I had gorgeous leftovers to sell and needed new pieces too,” says Brockway, who started Chairish with her husband, Gregg, in 2013. “After complaining to my husband about it, he suggested we start a business to fix it. And we did. In my dining room.” Chairish’s high-end inventory boasts a comprehensive range of diverse styles that cater to all, delivering a carefully curated assortment from brands like Schumacher and Restoration Hardware, iconic makers like Knoll and Eames, and more. Now, with more than 570,000 items in inventory, design and vintage enthusiasts can browse and fill their homes with pieces that not only make a statement, but are also kind to the planet. Building on that momentum, Chairish will release a sustainability-focused home furnishings resale report—its first-ever study on the state of recommerce in the home goods industry—in September. The report will explore the impact on waste and the benefits of repurposing furniture. Here, the design-obsessed entrepreneur shares the unique items she’s captivated with all available at Chairish, of course.
