Why trek a couple hours up a mountain when you can just head to South Coast Plaza for some snow?
Canada Goose just opened its first store in California and is bringing with it the chance to weather a snowstorm. Planting roots in the Golden State, the brand is also opening its first U.S.-based Snow Room right in the Costa Mesa mall.
As the next generation of Canada Goose’s Cold Room, the Snow Room offers Southern Californians the chance to put their cold weather-stamina to the test. Ultimately an invitation to experience the brand’s products first-hand, the innovative retail experience simulates a daily snowstorm with various weather conditions, including temperatures as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
The environment was inspired by the climate of Churchill, Manitoba, otherwise known as the polar bear capital of the world. It’s also the home of Canada Goose’s longtime partner, Polar Bears International, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocacy and the conservation of polar bears and their habitats.
Enlivened by their purpose platform HumanNature, the new store features artwork thanks to its Northern Art Program, which highlights Northern Canadian artists. At South Coast Plaza, Canada Goose partnered with Winnie Truong to showcase Zephyr, her stop-motion animation work created entirely with cut paper. For the project, Truong found inspiration in the idea of the invisible being made visible and landscapes of Los Angeles the San Bernardino Forest and Joshua Tree, among others. Shoppers can experience Zephyr in the Snow Room and other illustrations and sculptures by Inuit artists throughout the store.
Even if SoCal dwellers aren’t gearing up to hit the mountains, they can find ideal outerwear at the new store. Here, Canada Goose has available their newest line of lightweight down jackets, puffers and vests called the Cypress and Crofton collections. The brand deems the selection as ideal for taking in Malibu sunsets or hiking in Griffith Park.
Very soon, this Canada Goose location, like all others, will have its new footwear collection. Featuring two styles, the Snow Mantra Boots are a complement to the Snow Mantra Parka (what Canada Goose deems as “the warmest coat on Earth”) and the Journey Boots, an everyday boot inspired by footwear worn by hikers in the Alps. It releases on Nov. 12.
