Have you ever heard of wearing history? Bulgari may have just coined the term with the release of a new collection.
Bulgari is celebrating its 50th American anniversary in style with the launch of a limited edition run of jewelry pieces that, inspired by Nicola Bulgari’s vision to step outside the box and make a mark in history, actually feature historical Roman coins that date back as far as 222 A.D.
The collection features ancient coins fused with contemporary-style jewelry. Carrying the theme of ancient tradition, the collection is named after the Italian name for coin, Monete. In honor of Bulgari’s golden birthday, all of the pieces in the line are yellow gold.
The coins themselves are incorporated in different styles of necklaces, rings and bracelets. Bulgari’s classic tuboga and gourmette chains hold these pieces of history.
The beautifully-worn, silver coins contrast with the polished gold that surrounds each, standing out as the alluring artifacts they truly are. The design is a visualization of the past and present come together.
If the tuboga style isn’t your thing, the collection also features 18-karat yellow gold chains to hold the ancient coins.
Three pieces are on offer for everyday wear. Appropriately named “the everyday collection,” these include a yellow gold brooch, a gold flip ring and a gold pendant necklace.
The first Monete line was launched in the “La Dolce Vita” era of the brand. During that time the line was highly sought after by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Cher and Elizabeth Taylor.
This new Monete line stands at the intersection of modern fashion and history, celebrating Bulgari’s roots and main mission.
Earlier this week, Bulgari held a star-studded launch event in New York City. The evening of merriment boasted musical performances from Dev Hynes, Brian Newman, and Angel and Dren. The event also brought special appearances from Katie Holmes, Duckie Thot and Mary Leest, among others.
